the car is an x-11, 350 motor, VXXXXHA, has 712 interior with woodgrain dash. it has all RS components on the grill that need some TLC. the most important reason we bought the car was it was a four speed, a true plus to me. i dont know how this will help but that is information you asked for. i had several people email me with there trim tag numbers and vins which i know didnt want to put on discussion board. i found three cars that was built around same time as mine, one was about 100 cars or two hours earlier than this one, and two that was 75 and 160 cars appr behind mine. there trim tags was all over the place. the one that was built before mine had body number of 361xxx and the two behind mine had 355xxx and 344xxx. so that is probally correct, as i stated on this car i think it was 346xxx so i will just keep looking for some earlier pictures i took and i beleive i will just sell the car if i cant find some docs on trim tag and let someone else make there decision...... |

Right. Larry/Sheena, if the car has the original matching numbers engine and trans, and the stamps are original, then having the X11 tag missing is not as big a deal. That's what Dennis and others were trying to get at. The X11 tag is not a big deal; a relatively low percentage of X11 cars were SS350 cars (same code used for L6 and base and optional V8 engine cars with Style Trim).
Personally, if I saw a car with a repro trim tag (which is what you're trying to get the info to order), it throws into question the legitimacy of all of the other numbers on the car, and I'd make darn sure all was real. The only real issue is that you can't prove the RS is original, but the X11 code alone wouldn't do that anyway (an X55 could not be an RS, but an X11 could be either RS or non-RS). But, there are a number of other clues to identify a factory RS car. I have seen these cars with a cowl full of pine needles and leaves, and all kinds of cowl/firewall rot, but I have not seen one so rotted the tag just "fell off". I think I would consider calling the cops and having the cowl area fingerprinted to see who was fooling with it. Possibly just the threat of something like that will make the tag miraculously reappear. So, the tag being missing will affect the value of the car some, but not as much as if it had been a more definative tag, like an X22, X33, X55, X66, X77. The matching numbers drivetrain, if legit, should satisfy anyone inspecting the car, and I think many buyers would rather hear the tag went missing during the resto than to see a fake tag stuck to the firewall.

Larry/Sheena - Eric's reply is very much in line with why I was asking for details about the car. I'd stop dead in my tracks if I was looking at what looks like a numbers matching SS with a fake cowl tag. As a comparison I would still be cautious with a numbers matching SS with no cowl tag, I guess the fake tag makes me question the seller's motive and honesty...

ok, last question about the "missing" tagd: did it dissapear while the firewall was being worked on, or just "isn't there anymore"??
