well at least the floor mats don't get stuck under gas pedal and the oil doesn't fry in v6 engines like toyo and lexus

Intake, quick disconnect POS, radiator, water pump.....a mechanic told me it was due to air getting into the system that started the corrosion process.
We flushed the radiator on the truck and ran a hose through it for 30 minutes and the water never cleared up . It was unreal.
Same problems, '97 Z71, started leaking on it's own, back in '01, never added hose water.
From what I hear, the dex cool is some nasty stuff, the intake gaskets are probably gone, but our mechanic tightened the bolts on the vortec heads because there are so few and got loose over time.
almost 208k and still running strong, we just keep an eye on the coolant levels, and replaced the water pump when the gaskets were worn.
The radiator during those years were a joke, the plastic tanks crack over time, and especially over winter, they leak like a siv!
L-31 is a GREAT motor!

Dex Cool = Brown Yuck

At least it did in my '02 Impala. It's nice and green now.

GM settled the first Dexcool class-action suit back in March for $1.2 billion; there are four more still being litigated.

GM doesn't spend money paying out class action suits unless there is some merit to them or they just can't defend what they've done. Had my Grand Prix flushed at 4 years, then again 2 years later, both times by a dealer. A couple years ago I changed it to Prestone myself after flushing it again and no problems. So what happened to a car with no known issues what so ever to have it's radiator completely full of brown sludge when the car was only 4 years old? This was just one of GM's "better ideas" that wasn't researched enough or thought out before marketing it. Lesson to GM is don't change things that aren't broken.

The GM plastic intake plenum leaking is unrelated and only began to leak recently. This is a known issue on all GM 3800 engines due to plenum plastic material can't tolerate the heat from the EGR and it eventually cracks resulting in an anti-freeze leak. Dormans new improved design takes this into account and is beefed up in this area.

Never continued to drive my vehicles in disrepair. Dexcool is the problem and GM knows it.

Aren't those lawsuits dead as a result of the GM bankruptcy?

Nope. They now belong to the "new" GM (they were left with the "old" GM in the original bankruptcy filing, but the attorneys for the class-action groups petitioned the court and got them transferred).
