My understanding of it was it meant a "Triple-Black" (top/bottom/interior) color combo - very desirable at the time - and come to think about it, now also

Hmmm. Looks like the Chevelle site no longer has the dealer codes on closed dealers listed?

You can look up zone 27, but 079 or 79 comes back blank now. If you search all zone 27 dealers you can find Curry at the Hempstead location but the dealer code now shows "closed" instead of the 079 that I am pretty sure was there before?

Anyone have another web source that lists the dealers and zone codes?

Tks,

Rich

What I have been told (by Insurance adjuster) is you call them with a VIN and they can tell you the date shipped and to what dealer. They can't tell you if its a Z28 or SS396. The HP line is likely because in some states HP was taxed but from my understanding is they used a formula to list the HP, they did not list the advertised HP of the car model.

Police supposedly can do a nationwide search state by state using a VIN. But saying that, doing it for personal reasons can possibly get you in a whole heap of trouble unless you have a legitimate reason for doing the search.

Looks like the ad also states that they sell Yenko Deuces and have a HiPo shop "With the Super Secret Know How". Maybe they were a little more HiPo than I thought?

I called. You can only get information such as if the car was ever stolen or any known claims.

They won't give out the date shipped or to what dealer to the owner and they won't give that to an insurance agent either.

black wasn't offered as a standard color in 70. i believe the procedure for gmad was Wait until the dealer orders added up and shot the black in groups after taking the finished body off the end of the body line and massaged them a little better for the black paint . and another thought , the cars may also be a stripe delete car also as the claim is "ALL" black and stripes were standard in 70

Thanks for sharing, even though we have not always seen eye to eye.

I appreciate it.

This car may be nothing, but Tom Clary was trying to buy it a while back too. Then some "caller id blocked" guy, supposedly from California, was trying to buy it as well later on but knew nothing on it either.

Joel still will not give a up or down in writing on the car, and I have even offered to pay for a SECOND "certification" as long as there is a written report (up down or inconclusive) given.

Still digging.....

Rich

That was true for the early/mid year, but I think I recall a GM memo stating that Tuxedo Black was introducted into the color selections towards the end of the 1970 model run due to numerous customer orders ...
Probably wrong and it was for trucks or something

I have obtained MANY NICB reports in the past years (2008 and before) associated with my prior work (now retired), and I have never seen a HP entry before. Maybe its something new, or state related as indicated above.

Supposedly true. The investigation would have to have a reason to ask for that info as the only reason for maintain the db is for criminal investigation and not for providing the public with free info.
