I hate to see that there is not a coating under the brackets. I now feel the urge to remove every bracket, prime, and reinstall on my one piece floor. I doubt it is necessary but it sure would make me feel better.

No need to post pics, I see the brackets you are speaking of on my new 1 pc floor pan. Thanks. Now I have another question. By looking at your pictures of the holes you drilled for the frame rails on the trunk floor, it looks like the bracket will be in the way of the frame rails if it's not removed, Is this correct? I wasn't going to remove them, but if they are going to hit the frame rails, I guess I will have to. Thanks

It is close, but they do not hit the frame rails. It did make it tougher to center the trunk pan though, with them installed. I tried.... I'm not sure, but maybe convertible frame rails are different than a coupe?

It would be well worth it in the longrun and grand scheme of things.

It is bare metal to bare metal when they spot them onto the trunk pan and THEN they apply the EDP coating. I wanted to let everyone know just in case they would want to remove and prime them....

Meh heh..... Funny.... Yeah, I was going to leave one attached and use it to bolt up my electric Holley Red Fuel pump. I thought it would be perfect to mount to, but I will get in the way of the leaf springs and gas tank back there.... I decided to just fab something up later on in the build instead so I removed them now... Glad I did.

Good news / bad news..

Just a few seconds after stepping out into my garage to make some strides, I noticed a nice-sized puddle on the floor! My hot water heater finally took a turn for the worse. Since it was made in 1983, I consider myself pretty lucky to have had it this long. (without a leak)

Well, the tank rusted through and sprung a leak... luckily I must've caught it soon after it started to leak since the puddle was only about 10 feet long and in a stream pattern (didn't spread out yet) A lot of was soaked up by the thick carpeted side door mat that I have there just below the hot water heater shelf. So..... after a looooooong day, my father and I swapped it out and it's now working again. Nice and new GE model. So glad I found this as early as I did. It could have been worse...

So not only was I bummed all day since my only Camaro day was burned by this, I had to work on the hot water heater which is RIGHT IN FRONT of my Camaro !!!!!

The brighter side is that now I won't have to worry about it, AND it only helps when we go to sell our home. Maybe I will get a little time outside tomorrow? Have a great night guys!

So I was able to sneak out into the garage for about an hour this evening to start prepping the firewall-to-floor seam. I like using clecos to help suck the two panels down together. They work great and it's just a 3/16" hole to fill in later.

I started at each outer side and worked my way in towards the center. Then I fastened down the tranny tunnel and finessed the rest with some light taps of my body hammer to tighten the seam all the way. I was able to get the seam really tight and parallel to the raised bump along the firewall edge. SEE PICS....

Here are the tools I used... fairly simply step when the floor pan fits soooo well against the firewall.

The last pics are of how the car is sitting now, and waiting for me.... I have all the frame rail plug welding holes drilled out and coated in weld thru on the trunk pan. Just need to drill out a few more on the 1-pc floor for the frame rails, and then I will weld 'er up! Wish I had the next few weeks off....

Thanks! Starting to look more like a Camaro now instead of a life-long project. It's hard to believe two things:
  1. I am at this point
  2. I am not done yet
My goal now is to be driving this around town and to shows Summer '10.

Well, between my job and all of the things going on at home, I am never sure as to when I can get back out there to finish. So, as a precaution for flash-rusting around the holes (raw metal), AND since it wipes off soooo easily, I figure I may as well coat it to be safe. It's only primer.

I ordered more of the SEM 39783 weld thru today, so I should get it by Thursday of this week. I found for $9 per can and only $8 shipping, so I got two cans. I'm content....

Thanks Jeff... Glad I can be motivating for some. You know how exciting it is too finally be close (or closer) to being done. This summer should be one of my most favorite summers ever! I could just hear the exhaust already.... aaaahhH!!!
